About Hearing Associates
Hearing Associates, P.C., was established in 1980 in Libertyville by Linda S. Remensnyder, Founder and President. In addition to its Libertyville location at the Advocate Condell Medical Center, the practice operates a state-of-the-art satellite office in Gurnee on the Greenleaf Medical Campus. Currently, there are two Doctors of Audiology and two licensed hearing aid dispensers on the professional staff.
Linda S. Remensnyder, Au.D., is President and Director of the practice. Dr. Remensnyder was the first Doctor of Audiology in Illinois. She holds the Professional Doctorate in Audiology [Au.D.] from the University of Florida in Gainesville and recently served on the Board of Governors for the American Board of Audiology (ABA). This highly esteemed organization is committed to enhancing audiologic services to the public by promulgating universally recognized standards of professional practice by endorsing a high level of professional development and ethical practice. The ABA certifies Doctors of Audiology and provides specialty certification in such subjects such as Cochlear Implants and Pediatrics. The Lake County Business Review awarded Dr. Remensnyder the prestigious LUCI Award for Excellence in Healthcare. The LUCI, an acronym for Leading Us in Commerce and Industry, recognizes women who have distinguished themselves through their business accomplishments and leadership in Lake County.
The Libertyville office provides services Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and the Gurnee satellite is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Hours begin at 8:30 a.m. with early morning of later evening hours available. Appointments are required. In addition to its two office locations, the practice provides off-site services at multiple nursing homes and three retirement facilities. Home visits to those patients who are home-bound can be arranged if needed.
Dr. Remensnyder teaches popular and well-attended Audiologic Rehabilitation Classes to her hearing impaired patients and family members at the Gurnee office at scheduled time periods. The classes are included with the purchase of hearing aids are provided at no additional charge. Space is limited and reservations are encouraged.
Audiologic Rehabilitation Classes are devoted to learning about hearing loss and hearing aids, about having realistic expectations regarding hearing devices and the need to supplement hearing aids with Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT), about rights of the hearing impaired as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act, and about communication strategies.
Recommendations regarding where to sit at public gatherings, how to structure the home environment for maximizing audibility, and positive steps that can be taken to restrict situations in which the hearing impaired person is isolated from conversations empower patients to positively deal with hearing loss and become advocates for themselves. Hearing Associates, P.C., is committed to treating the whole patient including family members with the aim of limiting the impact of the communication disorder on the patient and the family.
